One of Audubon's most recognizable images, the Canada Goose, part 76 and plate 376. This highly sought-after image, depicting the male and female, is from Audubon's First Royal Octavo edition of Birds of America, published in the mid-1800s. Perhaps only a few thousand were ever produced and not all of them remain in existence today. As each Audubon original is hand-colored, no two are exactly alike. Already professionally matted (12 15) and ready to frame. Image is in excellent condition with very minor foxing. A certificate of authenticity from Princeton Audubon Limited is included.

Plate #76 Dimensions 39.375 x 26.25 John James Audubon (1785-1851) is Americas most famous artist/naturalist. He and his family produced several outstanding editions of birds and mammals in realistic, life-like settings. Princeton Audubon Limited is offering these rare genuine Audubon originals exclusively through The New York Times Store. Audubons largest works, the double elephant Birds of America, were engraved by Robert Havell in London between 1827 and 1838. With only about 200 ever produced, the Havells are very rare and each is hand-colored. Most are found in museums and university collections. The large size, about 29 x 39, is very much a part of their appeal, since the birds were drawn as life-size and always appeared in the foreground of Audubons compositions. This is Audubon at his best. Condition: Excellent color. Paper has been professionally conserved and deacidified; a six-inch horizontal tear in the middle left margin, extending into the image, has been skillfully repaired. Backed with Japan paper. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Princeton Audubon Limited.

Plate #363 Dimensions: 39 x 26.25 John James Audubon (1785-1851) is Americas most famous artist/naturalist. He and his family produced several outstanding editions of birds and mammals in realistic, life-like settings. Princeton Audubon Limited is offering these rare genuine Audubon originals exclusively through The New York Times Store. The full-size Bien Edition is the final release by the Audubon family and is the rarest of them all. These are truly American originals. In 1858, John Woodhouse Audubon, the younger son of John James, undertook an ambitious project to reissue the Birds of America. He recruited the Roe Lockwood Company in New York City to publish the works and Julius Bien for lithography. Unlike the Havells, which were produced from copper engraving plates, Bien utilized the newly emerging chromolithography process that replaced the need for hand-coloring. The Civil War brought an abrupt end to the project after only about 105 pages were printed. It is believed that about 100 copies of these pages were produced, but most of them did not survive. Thus, this one-in-a-hundred Audubon is truly a collectors piece. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Princeton Audubon Limited. Condition: Excellent color. Paper have been conserved and deacidified. Backed with Japan paper.
