Clara Maria Pope Botanical, Plate 5
Myrtle-leaved Camellia, Plate 5, Monograph of the Genus Camellia, 1819, from the collection of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew. A talented painter, Clara Maria Pope (1768-1838) created a name for herself by exhibiting miniatures, and after her husband's death, remarried Alexander Pope, noted poet and actor. She was commissioned by Samuel Curtis to create the hand-colored engravings for his Monograph of the Genus Camellia. Published in 1819, the work is now recognized as the finest of all the great camellia books, with fewer than 10 copies of the complete book in existence today. This premiere print is published by Oppenheimer Editions as a museum-authorized limited edition of 300. The collection is printed with watercolors on English watercolor paper and faithfully reproduces the brilliant, articulate colors for which Popes engravings are famous.

Pileated Woodpecker, Plate 111
Dryocopus pileatus Flora: fox grapes or red grapes. Vitus labrusca, or V. palmata This historic, limited edition print of one of Audubon's Birds of America is a same-size re-creation of our eminent naturalist's most famous work. John James Audubon (1785-1851) spent 12 years on this project, traveling from Labrador down to Florida and Galveston Bay to document some 489 species in their natural habitats. In seeking a publisher and subscribers to finance his work, Audubon crossed the Atlantic eight times. These images are printed with the finest ink on a heavy sheet of acid-free paper, specially toned to match the average color of the antique original, and then uniquely pencil-numbered. Each image is produced by Princeton Audubon Ltd, in an edition of only 1,500 prints. This offer is presented by The New York Times Photo Archives, in collaboration with the New-York Historical Society - the home of the world's largest collection of original Audubon watercolors; all purchased from the artist's widow in 1863. Each print measures more than two feet by three feet. Shipped unframed and rolled; or custom framed.
