U.S.S. Indianapolis Photo Signed by 3 Survivors
The U.S.S. Indianapolis holds a place in U.S. naval history due to the notorious circumstances of its loss in 1945. After delivering the first atomic bomb to be used in combat to a U.S. air base at Tinian Island, the Indianapolis was attacked by a Japanese submarine on July 30, 1945. The Indianapolis, a Portland-class heavy cruiser, sank in the Philippine Sea. Most of the crew was lost to shark attacks, as they floated helplessly for several days, waiting for assistance. It remains the worst single at-sea loss of life in U.S. Navy history. This black-and-white 8 x 10 photo is hand-signed by three Indianapolis survivors, matted and framed in wood under glass. Measures 13 x 16 framed. Certificate of authenticity included. Part of a limited edition. Ships in 3 5 business days.
